But they paid no heeds to it at all, instead there was a great debate over whether or not Winston Churchill should have not been this negligent and permitted instead of destroyers to have been on board to protect the passengers. What happened was that Captain Turner sailed through the Irish Sea, rather than take a wave-like approach to travelling and because of it he was criticised a lot. Churchill later commentated on the incident:

“The poor babies who perished in the ocean struck a blow at German power more deadly than could have been achieved by the sacrifice of 100,000 men.”
