How George H.W. Bush Made An Impact

George H. W. Bush recently passed away at the age of ninety-four. Bush had served in World War II and as the US Ambassador to the United Nations before succeeding Ronald Reagan as the President of the United States of America.

In my outlook, although, George was President of the country for only four years (1989-1993), he had heavily impacted the pages of history because of his involvement in the Gulf War. The Gulf War, which had begun in the year 1990, was an operation spearheaded by the United States to halt Iraq from taking over Kuwait; Iraq, at the time, was led by Saddam Hussein.

The United States was assisted in this operation by more than thirty countries, inclusive of the United Kingdom and France. But sadly, in spite of the fact that the operation proved to be a success, George was not elected back in 1994; as a result of having garnered a poor performance in handling affairs at home, George was succeeded by Bill Clinton as the President of the United States.

The songs and (the stars) that should win this year

The winners of the American Music Awards (AMAs) this year are set to be revealed later on today. The AMAs is more than forty years old with previous winners including Shania Twain, Rihanna and Katy Perry.

Drake is one of the music artists who has earned the most number of nominations this year. I think the Canadian star securing so many nominations demonstrates the kind of music plus music artists which will probably win at the AMAs this year and that means songs which can’t really be deemed too melodious in spite of the fact that they are famous plus music artists who, more often than not, exhibit songs of that type as part of their latest album release or body of work.

In my outlook, the wins at the AMAs should reflect the total opposite – music artists who regularly sing songs which have a good dose of melody, for example as artists like Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift do, plus songs of that type should win instead because those deserve to be applauded more. My picks:

Ancient Egypt

Pyramides de Ghyzéh, Vue Générale

What is Ancient Egypt?

Ancient Egypt is the name given to an African civilization which used to exist a very long time ago in what is present-day Egypt. The civilization had existed for several centuries. Ancient Egypt had produced many pharaohs (meaning: rulers) such as Djoser, Khafre and Ramses I. Hallmarks of this era include the pyramids, some stunning temples and illustrious tombs of pharaohs. In my outlook, Ancient Egypt was a very remarkable civilization because it had demonstrated that an African civilization which used to exist many, many years ago could create marvelous architectures (for example: the pyramids) which can still be considered as some of the greatest in the world; this is in spite of the fact that, since then, building styles have evolved and advanced a lot.

My picks of the top male music artists of the year:

  1. Justin Timberlake
  2. Charlie Puth
  3. Snow Patrol
  4. Shawn Mendes
  5. 5 Seconds of Summer

Which female music artist rules music this year?

In my outlook, what makes a great female music artist are the songs which she sings – they must be good; I think the music artist’s latest album release should contain good tracks – something like that is a demonstration of the fact that she is the type of person who can generally be associated with quality songs too. Also, it really helps if these artists can perform well and have interesting dispositions. My picks of the top female music artists of the year:

  1. Anne-Marie
  2. Ariana Grande
  3. Bebe Rexha
  4. Hayley Kiyoko
  5. Nicki Minaj

Gerbera

What type of flower is a Gerbera?

Gerbera is a flower which is local to developing regions, such as Africa and Asia. The flower borrows its name from Traugott Gerber, who used to be a botanist during the 18th century. Gerberas are also known as transvaal daisies. They are actually from the same class of flowers as daisies. The colors which a gerbera can be found in include red, orange and pink. In my outlook, what really makes gerbera a beautiful flower is that it can look a little bit like a common white daisy but it is still found in many beautiful bright colors; also, sometimes a gerbera is more packed with petals than that type of daisy making the flower more magnificent and brilliant.

The Man Booker Prize (2018) Shortlist Forecast

What type of book should make the Man Booker Prize (2018) shortlist?

The longlist for the Man Booker Prize this year includes thirteen books: Washington BlackWarlight, The Long TakeNormal People, The Water Cure, Everything Under, From a Low and Quiet Sea, In Our Mad Furious CityThe OverstorySnap, The Mad City and Sabrina. The shortlist for the British book prize will be revealed on September 20, 2018 and in my outlook, the books which should make the shortlist are books which have an element of romance about them or are books which are pieces of fiction based during a particular time in the past; I think those books clearly outshine the others in this year’s selections for the longlist.

Consider Normal People by Sally Rooney, for example, which has a romantic story: the book is about two people who attend Trinity College Dublin (in Ireland); one used to be an admired figure in football at school, whilst the other was a person with an uncommunicative nature. However, at college, the situation turns around for the two: the boy becomes a reserved person, whilst the girl becomes sure of oneself in a new recreational setup and the romance which eventually occasionally transpires between the two is fractured but shocking; it is a romance which holds an entertaining value.

Also, consider Warlight by Michael Ondaatje which is based in 1945 -the year in which the Second World War ended. In the book, two children are looked after by a person called The Moth who the children think is a villain; The Moth has a bunch of friends who strangely want to teach and also keep the children safe from harm. The book fictionally puts the spotlight on people living in the British capital in 1945 and in doing so, mixes history with a great story; it is a piece of fiction which helps to nicely visualize what life had some possibilities to be like a very long time ago.
